Austrian Butter Cookies

Ingrients & Directions

1 c flour 1 c sugar 2/3 c nuts; chopped 1/2 c butter; softened

Sift the flour and sugar together. Add the chopped nuts. Blend in
the butter. Stir with a spoon until a soft dough is formed. Chill
for 1-2 hours.

Roll the dough out on a floured board to 1/8″ thickness. Cut into
rounds with a biscuit cutter and place rounds on an ungreased cookie
sheet. Bake at 375 (191C) for 7-10 min.

Yields about 3 dozen.

Can be made into a sandwich cookie. Traditional Austrian manner is to
spread thinly with jam, cover with a second cookie, then cover top
with chocolate frosting and a pecan or walnut half.

CHOCOLATE FROSTING

1 TB butter 1/3 c powdered sugar 1 egg yolk 1 sq unsweetened
chocolate,
-melted and cooled.

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolk and chocolate. Blend well.
