Clara’s Chocolate Cake^

Ingrients & Directions


1 1/2 c Sugar
1/2 c Shortening or lard
3 Eggs
2 Squares chocolate
2 tb Boiling water
3/4 c Sour milk
1 ts Baking soda
2 c Flour
1/2 ts Salt
2 ts Vanilla

Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. dissolve baking soda in milk.
Meantime, beat together sugar and shortening. Add chocolate. Add eggs
one at a time and beat well. Stir in milk. Add flour, salt and
vanilla. Pour into greased and floured pans and bake in a moderate
oven for about 40-45 minutes.

temperatures. I have typed them in as they appear in the book, typos
and all.
