1 c Butter or margarine — 1 c Walnuts — chopped
Softened 1 c Dates — chopped
2 c Sugar 1 tb Grated orange peel
3 Eggs — beaten GLAZE:
4 c All-purpose flour 1/4 c Orange juice
1 ts Baking soda 1/2 c Sugar
1 ts Salt 2 tb Grated orange peel
1 1/3 c Buttermilk
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar Add eggs; mix well. Combine
flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with
buttermilk. Fold in walnuts, dates and orange peel. Pour into two
greased and floured 8-1/2-in. x 4-1/2-in. x 2-1/2-in. loaf pans. Bake
at 350 deg. for 50-65 minutes or until done. Combine glaze
ingredients; spoon half over hot bread Cool for 10 minutes. Remove
from pans; spoon remaining glaze over bread. Yield: 2 loaves
