3/4 c Soft shortening (Crisco) (I
-use 1 stick softened butter
-and 1/4 C shortening)
1 c Brown sugar, firmly packed
1 Egg
1 c Dark molasses
-PART B-
2 1/4 c Sifted flour
2 ts Baking soda
1/4 ts Salt
1/2 ts Ground cloves
1 ts Cinnamon
1 ts Ground ginger
Mix thoroughly part “A”. Add and mix thoroughly part “B”. Chill dough (I
mix it the night before). Preheat oven to 375F. Roll dough into walnut-size
balls. Dip tops in white sugar. Place sugar-side up on greased cookie
sheets. Sprinkle 2-3 drops of water on each for a crackled effect. Bake for
about 10-12 minutes til set but not hard.
Makes about 4 dozen.
